SIA reply for my flight delay
Wrote an email to SIA over the internet regarding compensation for my connecting flight.. For my conference trip to Vienna, I have to make a connection at Zurich. My SQ flight was actually delayed for 2.5hrs, thus I m not able to make it for my connecting flight scheduled 3 hrs later... Bopian, hv to reschedule to a later time, which costs me 250CHF ($330).
Here's the content of their reply:
Dear Dr Lee
SQ346 / 30 August 08 / Singapore – Zurich
I am sorry to learn of the delay to the abovementioned flight, and the subsequent rescheduling done and additional costs borne for your connecting flight in Zurich.
Investigations revealed that the delay occurred because the original aircraft deployed for your flight had developed a technical fault and had to be replaced with an alternative aircraft. We are disappointed that the technical fault had occurred despite the regular pre-flight maintenance checks on all our aircraft. Please may I assure you that we do not view such defects lightly. I have since informed our Engineering department to step up its maintenance efforts on our aircraft to prevent a recurrence of such defects in future.
Dr Lee, I would like to assure you that we want all our flights to depart on time. Flight delays not only inconvenience passengers but also disrupt our operations. Any delay in our flights exceeding fifteen minutes is subjected to close scrutiny by our top management, with a view to preventing a recurrence.
While airlines do not compensate passengers for flight delays, some passengers do purchase travel insurance covering them against losses or inconvenience in such situations. If you have such an insurance cover, we would be happy to assist you in your insurance claim by furnishing an official letter for your travel insurer for the above flight delay.
Dr Lee, while we know that our apologies cannot reverse your experience, I hope that our efforts to address your concerns will provide some assurance that we do not take them lightly. Once again, our deepest apologies for the inconvenience caused. We hope to welcome you back onboard our flights again under more pleasant circumstances.
Yours sincerely

EN_UK : For my recent flight from SIN-ZUR, SQ346, the flight was delayed from 0105 to 0335, total of 2.5hrs. Actually I have booked a connecting flight, scheduled 3 hours after I arrived in Zurich. Because of this delay, I have to re-schedule my connecting flight to a later time, which costs 100CHF for amendment fee, and another 170CHF for the ticket. For this, can you advise my request for compensation on this matter. Feel free to contact me at my email or mobile. Thanks.

Personally, I dun tink travel insurance covers this, as it's not a travel postponement or cancellation. The delay was not more than 6hrs too. I dun see why the airline is saying that they have no liability to make this compensation... Actually 1am flight is oredi very tiring, n delaying the flight to 3.35am made it worse. Tired, sleepy + worried, cos not sure if they would delay again. Sighz... even my travel agent frens told me tat it's rare to see such delays from SQ.
Quite lucky tat my boss told me to claim through comapny, while the company will handle the claim from insurance or airline.. Hopefully, my colleagues can get this back...
