Shanghai trip - Part 2

Category: , By @nGeline
Tis post is gonna b very long.. n I tink it's going 2 b even longer than my London-Paris post...

Ruiling (left) n Sharon (right) nv meet b4, so tis was their first meeting.

I can't resist taking these pics, cos they r so huge... haha. I made quite a nice pose along with Jay.

As we arrived late in the evening, din go to any specific place. Onli had dinner, walked ard the hotel.. n of crs to look for our hairdresser, as we had decided to pay SGD2 for hair wash! cheap rite? =)

We went to the famous Yuyuan on the 2nd day. Quite crowded as it was a Sunday...... sigh..... But the place is realli nice to walk around. Overall, I find Yuyuan very beautiful, very polite ppl. ==>

It was exceptionally windy along Nanjing road, which is just a block from our hotel. Cold cold... 12oC. faint.......
Guess wat were we looking?

IT'S THIS!! HUGE right?

I find the name of this shop very interesting. Test-tube is an essential apparatus used in my lab. I jus cannot believe tis can b a brand name.. But Ruiling n I r not bad too, cos we thought of even nicer names. Hee.. like RBF, columns, centrifuge, etc! Hee

The bund was even more windy than Nanjing road, as expected. The day was cloudy, could not see the sun at all.... Actually, the yellow river is very dirty.. but luckily not smelly, if not too unsightly.

My galfrens r trying to act as cute as they can while posing.. haha. really very cute =)

We travelled to Hangzhou on the 3rd day. The train ride was quite fast, ard 1h 10min. But the situation at the ticket office was pretty bad. Most of the ppl r rude, cut quene, n the worst is tat they pushed their way thru most of the time.. by force! So fed-up..

Anyway, upon settling at our hotel, we went str to Lingyin temple, the well-know temple where Ji Gong stayed (in drama n movie).

We took quite some time thr, cos it was something diff from busy city like Shanghai n even Singapore. Refreshing air, less crowded (cos it's a Monday =D) We were quite lucky tat it was only cloudy, though the weather forecast said it will rain tat day.

From Lingyin temple, we had a SGD2 taxi ride to this Long Jin village, overseeing the west lake. As it was too misty, we r unable to take any pics of West lake. However, i find tis experience very unique, cos we interacted more like locals on this day. The villagers ivited us to taste their longjin tea, at no cost! Ruiling bought some tea for her family.. it's damn damn expensive lor, dun ask me how much..... =X
Drawing water from their village well to wash our face n hands, b4 we go for tea-tasting. It's part of their tradition.. If not, we will not b allowed to touch their tea...

Finally, we continued our Hangzhou tour at the famous west lake. There r jus too many scenic spots, but all of them r quite similar.

I was told tat Hangzhou cuisine is much better than tat in Shanghai. Frankly speaking, it's really true... Cos I m not a fish person, I will jus talk about the chicken. I had their famous dish, called the beggar chicken. It's the best food tasted in tis entire trip! So so so nice. It's diff from our hainan chicken rice. Jus a diff type of taste... highly recommended.

We went to Wuzhen the next morning by signing up a 1-day tour package with the local travel agency. Bus ride + entry tix costs SGD22. But we din follow the bus back to Hangzhou, as we took a bus back to shanghai from Wuzhen. I was told Wuzhen is jus like Venice, but it's less commercialized. Well... no where in China is NOT commericalized lor!

Guess wat is he doing??

Shanghai trip - Part 1

Category: , By @nGeline
Tink hv to write about my shanghai trip in a few parts as some of my pics r with Ruiling... Overall, I realli enjoy tis trip very much. Even though the weather is very very cold, usually 8-12oC, we seemed to cover the place we wanted, n oso the food we crave for.

If any1 is interested to go on a holiday to Shanghai, here's my suggested itinerary:

1) At least 3 full days in Shanghai; can visit places like Yuyuan (豫园), Huai Hai road shoppping street (淮海路), Qipu road wholesale shopping street (七埔路), the bund (外滩), Nanjing road shopping street (南京路) and 新天地 (nightlife district). I have tried a few restaurants in some of these place, realli worth trying.

2) 1 day in Hangzhou and 1 day in wuzhen (乌镇). Worth going! Will upload my pics asap.

3) If u wish to visit Huangshan, mus spent at least 2 days, 1 night at the town, 1 night at mountain top. In this way, u can relax n enjoy the sight-seeing.
Tot of uploading the food which I hv eaten during the trips first as it is easier to arrange.. will upload the others later.
The gigantic xiao long pao.. they add the straw so tat u can drink the gravy. lol. I did try as I was very full at tat time.
Not sure if tis bloack corn is nice... i tried the purple corn in Japan b4, quite tasty.

Had Japanese buffet, so we ate quite a lot of sashimi n shabu shabu =)

Had breakfast at this taiwanese cafe 永和豆浆. Realli regretted ordering so much soya bean drink, cant finish... The egg biscult is damn nice ^_^

Hee.. we tried our 1st Beijing duck at our hotel restaurant. Turned out to b very nice unexpectedly. We ordered a lot of food, but managed to finish..

Hong kong desserts!

We tried to eat at tis steamboat restaurant, but failed during the 1st 3 x, cos it was overcrowded! On our 4th try, we went at 11am.. hee, so managed to try it. Very nice, price reasonable. I like the soup very much. there r 6 soup base to select, n I chose spicy soup (辣汤). Can make it more spicy if I wan, very flexible.

Will update more in the next post...
