My Kiev trip 23-28Aug

Category: , By @nGeline
Have been pretty busy with my spree-organizing stuffs, so managed to find some time for my kiev photos :)

Kiev is actually quite alright, with cathedrals and churches as the main attractions I tink. I had a 2 hours city tour sponsored by the conference. Here are some pics taken:

I paid about $35 for an optional excursion to their famous monastory. There are many churches on the hilltops, but we managed to see only 3 of them. More pics below....

After the conference ended, we had an sumptous traditional Ukrainian dinner at this little cottage near the city center. There seemed to b endless serving of food, wine and volka. so faint lor.. I realli believed I gained at least 2Kg from this trip.. sighz...

Kiev is ok if u r visiting for 2 days.. staying too long might b a bit boring.. I was lucky tat I only extended one day in Kiev.. Realli nothing much to do..

2 Hours walking tour in Vienna

Category: , , By @nGeline
My colleague & I signed up a walking tour which brings us to the old streets in Vienna city. Started from Hofburg palace. A lot of history behind the palace, as well as those palace built by nobel families. All surrounding the palace. So very easy to walk.

All the buildings have their unique cravings, symbols at the roof too. I took some pics of them, not all, cos too many of them oredi...

Even a normal door way as above looks so extravagant.. These ppl realli spent a lot on little things like these. I cant imgaine what r inside the palace.. Cannot go in cos mus pay... =X

The tour includes a visit to Beethoven residence where he stayed thr for 4 yrs. Actually mus pay to go in.. but our tour has tis included.. so faint.. these ppl can realli make use of such publicity to earn money... =_=

Our gala dinner was on the same day. We had our dinner at the city hall, hosted by the city Mayor.. I tink tis is super big thing... the food was so-so.. not very fantastic for a dinner like tis.. sigh... ate 1 round, went back hotel le.. so sianz lor..

Tis cathedral was recommended by the locals, saying tat it was the most beautiful cathedral in Austria. Very very beautiful inside. I believe there r a lot of donors for tis church.. =_=

Overall, Vienna ok la.. worth going but better not stay too long.. can get realli bored.. will post pics in swiss soon..

2nd day in Vienna

Category: , , By @nGeline

Here's the hotel I m staying.. From the outside, doesn't look like a luxurious hotel (as indicated in webby).. but the room looks fine. New and comfortable.

Dizhong and I decided to explore as many places as we can since our conference starts in the afnoon. Went to the Museumquartier, hofburg palace etc. took their tram n tour the city 1 round. quite fun orverall. But it's quite a dead town on sunday. no shops open except the soverneir shops.. cafe restaurants open oso, but the city center realli very miserable.. so so so dead... sigh...

After visiting the attractions, we had pizzas for lunch. each costs 2.35 Euros (about $4.80) I tink tis is one of the cheapest food I can find in Vienna.. Mac shud b about 4.80 Euro per meal....

Happened to pass by the LV shop.. closed, looks small from outside. probably will come again after my conf. Saw many other branded shops too.. all near the Hofburg palace.

Now I have 3 palace to choose.. Hofburg palace, Schonbrunn castle or Belvedere castle.. I mus definitely visit 1 palace or castle in Vienna. My conf will ends on thurs 1pm, probably i shud visit the place after tat.. Friday can do watever i wan. hmmm..

Long haul flight to Vienna

Category: , , By @nGeline
My conference trip to Vienna was realli super dramatic... My colleague Dizhong went with me for this conference held in Vienna.

First, my long haul flight to Zurich was delayed 2.5hrs... my connecting flight was originally scheduled 3hrs after I arrived Zurich, so bopian hv to change to a later time. which was another 2hrs later.

When we arrived Zurich, we actually hv 40min, n we tried our luck.. we did hv the time to make it for our original flight lor. so zzzz... now hv to wait for the next flight. I was so bloated tat I hv to drink something hot.. - hot english tea.

n after tat our connecting flight to Vienna was also delayed... another 30min.... so so so faint..........

Sighz.. took us ages to reach our hotel, which to our disappointment wasn't as good as we think. The room tarrif was 190Euro per day, quite ex for such a standard. The only thing I m happi abt tis hotel is the free internet access =p =p =p now no more complaint.

The internet access was a bit slow, took me ages to upload my pics. Here are the pics taken on my first day of arrival, Very very slow.. haiz..

I looked quite tired from the pic, so tried not to take too many pics... =X Instead I took Dizhong's pics. haha. Our U-Bahn ride to the city center since we chose our hotel near the venue which is at the suburban area.

Our first stop - Stephansplatz. The most notable attraction is the cathedral. I find it very beautifully done. even better than those I saw in Paris. This is the place where we saw the most ppl. Street performance, ppl enjoying their afternoon tea at the cafe. Talking about cafe, they r everywhere!! The ppl here love drinking at the pMy next hotel will b around tat area. Tink I will go there walk again.

We walked around the area, had lunch too. I had grilled fish, din take pics, cos I totally forgot abt it.. But I took pics of my food the following days. will upload when I m free. Saw quite a number of horse carriages. The ppl here realli like very ancient style of travelling ard the city.

Another thing tat I observed was that there r a lot of pubs n cafes. Ppl here love to sit ard, drink coffee, tea or beer. Ver relaxed way of life sia.. we can't do this in sg for sure.. too carefree for our living style... sigh...

Our last destination of the day - the Donauinsel river. My Austrian colleague told me tat it's no diff from our Singapore river.. But i find the atmosphere from tis river is super refreshing. Though there's nothing around the river, saw ppl cycling, jogging etc. but the feeling is super good. I guess the residential housing near this river mus b exp...

Many pics to follow... super slow in the uploading, cos the hotel internet conneciton is super slow.. =_=
