My self-drive NZ trip 03-14Nov 2010

Category: , , By @nGeline
Really spent wonderful times in this New Zealand trip. Breathtaking sceneries, clear blue skies, snow-capped mountains during the mid-spring season. Everything is so perfect!

2 weeks at South island is just right. If we were to spend 2 weeks in both north & south islands, it will b very tiring. New Zealand needs around a month time to complete, 2 weeks each on 1 island. Also, following tour group might not b a gd idea, so cannot make stopover as u wish. Here's the summary of my 12days trip:

Day 01
We drove straight to Lake Tekapo after collecting our rented car (we chose Omega rental car). The journey was smooth, not very scenic and took about 3hrs to reach our cottage. Paid NZ$190 for a 2br cottage. Not much of sight-seeing from the cottage, and the FourSquare supermarket at the town center is quite small, with limited varieties of food we can cook. Should have gone to the Christchurch supermarket first. We visited the famous Chapel, took a lot of pics, as the lake overlooks Mt Cook alps. Very very scenic!

Day 02
Drove up to Mt Cook after check out, took ard 1hr. It was raining that day, so we din really take many pics. Drove straight to Dunedin after lunch, which took 2.5hr and checked in at this motel lodge. This city is very properous, and can go for penguin viewing at the Otago Penisular. However it was raining, and too cold to travel in the evening. We walked to the city center and had Mac for lunch. Then came across a mega supermarket, whr mum bought many food

Day 03
We went to the Cadbury chocolate factory instead. Megan enjoyed herself very much, n we bought lots of chocolate bars as gifts. Drove to Te Anau ard 12pm, stopped by for light lunch before continuing to our motel which is situated by Lake Te Anau. Very very scenic too. However, our motel is the worst accommodation we had this trip, n had to stay 2 nights.. We drove to city center, bought pizza for dinner.

Day 04
Signed up for this Milford Sound day trip (costs NZ$150 per adult, includes lunch on cruise), where the bus picked up from the motel. Everywhere we went before reaching the Milford terminal are super scenic. Every pics are like postcard pics. Really worth going! Reached motel ard 5.

Day 05
Checked out motel n drove straight to Queenstown. Queenstown is quite a small town, with Franklin jus beside. Many adventurous activities we can do: Sky-diving, bungy jump, cycling, fishing, kayaking, etc. We went to Gibbston valley n joined the 1hr wine tour. The wine-tasting is alright, probably not to my liking. Drove to Cromwell to the fruit orchard. No orchard tour as there aren't enough fruits for the tour. Had a walk in the city center after dinner

Day 06
Spent almost the whole day at the gondola. We did para-gliding and luge twice. Very very worth it, as it's super fun! We love our apartment too, cos can do as many laundries as we wan.

Day 07
Checked out and drove to Fox Glacier. We stopped by Wanaka n explored the Puzzling world. Quite interesting place. Then continued our longest drive of this trip. Took us almost 4.5hrs of driving. We stopped by Fox Glacier, and went for a walking trail which lasts 1hr. After tat, checked into motel n rest.

Day 08
Checked out and drove to Westport. Stopped by Punakaiki pancakes and blowholes for a walk and sight-seeing. Quite worth the time as the formations of these rocks r really amazing. Checked into our best stay of this trip which oversees the ocean from the balcony. Super super scenic. It's a pity tat we can only stay a night.

Day 09
After check out, we drove to city center to walk ard before heading to Blenheim. Stopped by Nelson national park for a quick bite, n ended up feeding nearly-expired bread to the wild ducks. They r really very scary... Reached our B&B at Blenheim, n we went to city center for a walk. David n sis went to buy some wines fr nearby, n they r really gd.

Day 10
Decided to try out some of the wines near our B&B and we drove to Flamingham, Spy valley where Cloudy Bay & Isabel Estate hv the best dessert wines. Highly recommended. Ended up at Highfield for lunch to celebrate mom's birthday. Continued to drive to Christchurch, stopped by Kaikora for light shopping n a walk by the beach. Our motel at Christchurch is quite classy, very clean. Mom n sis went to the Casino nearby n won some money too :)

Day 11
Spent late morning at the city center, took a walk in the botanical garden nearby. Then we went to the Antartica center & spent our afternoon thr. Quite interesting place. Casino for mom and myself this time round, n we won too!

Accommodation:
Lake Tekapo cottages
Commodore motel
Edgewater Te Anau motel
Best Western Cranbury court
Glacier Gateway motel
Steepes Cottage highly recommended!!
St Leonard B&B
Bellagio motel suites

Guangzhou trip 09-12Jul

Category: , By @nGeline
My flight to Guangzhou wasn't that fantastic.. frankly speaking, travelling by tiger air is nv a gd experience. Not-so-friendly staffs + uncomfortable seats (Not much leg space even for a average girl like me!) + No water (Mineral water costs $3.50!!!!!!) bla bla blah...

Guangzhou Baiyun international airport is quite new, probably less than 8 yrs old. Our taxi journey takes about 40min to reach our hotel. Costs 140¥, which I find it cheap. We travel around almost by cab all the time, except for once whr we can't find a cab at all... hv to take mrt..

We stayed at Holiday Inn Hotel Shifu, where is centrally located in their busy shopping district called 上下九街. The room rate is about S$110 per night, quite reasonable, as we r very near to the shopping district, conveniently located near mrt n shopping malls. Our room is gigantic lor.. so big, tat we requested to stay in one room instead or two, cos we have 2 queen beds.. but they refused, as they cannot have 4 people in 1 room n will b fined if caught..

Look at the space we have in our room.. damn big right!!???

We had buffet dinner at Grand Hyatt hotel, where Andy paid the bill.. Realli very tasty lor. I missed the 卤大肠 lor... super super fat n nice. Haiz... I cannot find this type of big intestines in sg for sure..

I guess the best part of Guangzhou is the children wholesale markets. can really get anything, everything! My sis n Pat were so busy buying for their children, and ended up spending more than half their RMB... haha. Luckily we have a mobile exchanger who can withdraw money for us *_^

Went to Beijing street and Zhongshan Lu. Overall this place is super crowded with people. Always, very very dusty.. I hv to wear face mask for the first day as I was not used to the road dust.. Too much for me..

I guess the only thing I love or recommend about Guangzhou is their dim sum. Very very gd n cheap. I find it better than those in hong kong n sg. Mus try! We had dim sum and lunch at this place called 陶陶居 near our hotel. The restaurant is abotu 4-storey high, sure big enuff to accommodate the long quene.

Also, not forgetting about our cheap n nice massage, where the locals called 浴足. 70min massage for 43¥!!!! We have herbal foot spa + neck, shoulder, back, face n leg massage. They provide fruits, chinese tea n fruit juice too. Damn cheap n superb service.. The only thing I dun like is their neck massage.. Probably I hv stiff neck, so I was almost screaming out when she was massaging my neck.. Phew!

Overall, quite a relaxing n nice trip. Can go if there's cheap airfare. I guess I won't go the second time, as I do not like the shopping tat much, unlike my sis n Pat..

My BKK trip 2009

Category: , By @nGeline
Bought veri cheap Jetstar tix to BKK during my 11 days break. Eat, massage, shopping, sight-seeing etc. It was a very relaxing and enjoyable trip. We stayed at this hotel, Best Western Mayfair Suites, which charges at $58 per night. Quite reasonable with gd breakfast, but quite inaccessible though.. We took taxi or tuk tuk all the time when we were travelling back to hotel.

Went to this very nice place with superb ambience at state tower top floor. We can find quite a lot of foreigners and rich Thais. Our cocktails cost about $18-20 per glass. Nice scenery from outside, and there's a French restaurant beside the pub. Highly recommended if u wanna find a place to chill out.

We went to the Grand palace too. Didn't go in as we arrived quite late.. left about 30min for us to explore, so we decided to walk around the premise instead.

FOOD!!!! The most impt part of my blog.. hahaha

Very nice Jap curry rice, located at ground floor at Siam Paragon. Highly recommended.

My Fav fishball guotian soup, jus outside Asia Hotel.. I ate 3x during this trip ^^

Sorry for the last 2 pics.. haha.. jus to prove that we realli finished the food. Super nice lunch set from this restaurant called Thanying Restaurant, located near Surasek BTS station. About 5min walk. It's fine dining type, with very good service. Must try if u r willing to pay more for good Thai food.

My Kiev trip 23-28Aug

Category: , By @nGeline
Have been pretty busy with my spree-organizing stuffs, so managed to find some time for my kiev photos :)

Kiev is actually quite alright, with cathedrals and churches as the main attractions I tink. I had a 2 hours city tour sponsored by the conference. Here are some pics taken:

I paid about $35 for an optional excursion to their famous monastory. There are many churches on the hilltops, but we managed to see only 3 of them. More pics below....

After the conference ended, we had an sumptous traditional Ukrainian dinner at this little cottage near the city center. There seemed to b endless serving of food, wine and volka. so faint lor.. I realli believed I gained at least 2Kg from this trip.. sighz...

Kiev is ok if u r visiting for 2 days.. staying too long might b a bit boring.. I was lucky tat I only extended one day in Kiev.. Realli nothing much to do..

My KL trip ^_^

Category: , By @nGeline

This is my 2nd time to KL, the first time with Sharon and Samantha. Cannot remember much as it was quite long time ago.

The place which I find it the most interesting is the Curve. It's located in the sub-urban area, with shopping malls, IKEA, Courts, etc.. As for the shopping mall, the style is quite westernized, with pubs opening till wee hours on sunday. We had massage for only 79 ringgits, consider quite cheap with the nice ambience and nice-smelling massage oil. Forgot to take pics of the massage plc though...

Derrick and Angela joined us for this trip at the last min.. haha we booked this trip about a week before we flew too. It was a veri sudden decision, and we managed to find cheap JAL tix at $139! Overall, hotel + airfare costs $230++, not too bad for a weekend getaway.

Had lunch at this hong kong cafe called Kim Gary. Apparently, we have this cafe in Singapore too, one at Vivo, another at Tampines one. The food was cheap, n not too bad. If I were to tink of anything which I missed out, I guess it will b the Ampang Yong Tou Foo. Din hv time to go thr at all, n always feeling super full! haha... hv been eating too much lor!

While waiting for our flight back at KL airport, we bought dinner at the terminal. This restaurant has a very interesting way of collecting our food. Once we ordered and paid our bill, we received this big pager thingy, which they will beep when the food is ready for collection.

Batam Weekend getaway trip

First time going on a trip with bro's family. Can see tat the boys r well-behaved during this trip. It's a pity tat my sakai younger bro cannot join cos he tinks it's better to save money.

While bro and Huiling were enjoying their spa package, Kyan n Kydric were left at the resort play house, paying $5 per 4hrs each. The caretaker took the efforts to find activities for the boys n I can see Kyan enjoyed alot. Kydric was a bit moody, cos he missed his daddy lor. Realli a daddy's boy!

Can see Megan is enjoying her time at the room, whr she can play the TV controller, air-con controller, phone etc. Also, the hotel has a great pool, both for adults n kids. I enjoyed the jacuzzi thr. very very shiok!

Guess I may come again only if I book a better ferry.. the ride realli sucks..
